Is Playwin Scam? Read our MyPlayWin.com Review 2020 to find out!
First founded online in November 2011, MyPlayWin.com is India’s first online lottery website. The site is owned by the Indian government but is run and maintained by Pan Indian Network Limited—a conglomerate of the massive Essel group. Surprisingly, even though it is an Indian website, the only available language is English. In this Playwin review, we will look at how the site functions and if it is worth signing up with.
While you may expect to see the names of all your favourite international lotteries such as US Powerball and Mega Millions, these names definitely do not appear on Playwin. The Indian website has chosen to do what the minority of online lottery websites do and run its own lottery games—backed by the government, of course.
As a result, the games that you will find available on the site are:
- Jaldi 5 Lotto
- Jaldi 5 Double Lotto
- Lucky 4
- Fast Digit Lottery
How Does it Work?
As with almost all websites that deal with lotteries, you will need to register for a user account in order to play on MyPlayWin.com. To register, you will need to submit your full personal details such as name, date of birth, and email address. Your mobile number is also compulsory, as the site will SMS you a one-time-pin to complete your registration process. During registration you will need to specify the region that you reside in (we’ll explain why this is so important later on in this review) and specify if you would like to be issued a digital or physical card. These cards have each player’s specific account number listed on the back of them.
To purchase tickets, simply select the lottery you would like to play, choose your numbers, and then enter in your account number (found on the back of your Playwin card) followed by your card pin code. Once your ticket is purchased, you can relax and wait until the draw to see if you are a winner.
Is MyPlayWin.com Legit or a Scam?
Playwin is the official lottery website of the Indian government. It is also backed by one of the largest company groups in India, Essel. Therefore, we are more than confident that playing the lottery through the website is 100% safe and that you can trust that you will receive your winnings considering they are paid by the government.
The look and feel of the website are modern enough that it is great to look at. It provides easy navigation with all the things you could need placed under tabs at the top of your screen. The site also loads relatively quickly—even on less than perfect connections.
The one negative about the site is the fact that tickets can only be purchased through it between 7 am and 9 pm Indian time (IST). The rest of the site, such as results and news, can be accessed around the clock. Also, for those who are on the move, the site has a dedicated Android application called Playwin Jaldi 5 – Lucky Pick that allows users to purchase tickets from their mobile device. Unfortunately, the app limits available lotteries to only the Jaldi 5 and Jaldi 5 Double lotteries.
Unfortunately, Playwin does not offer any additional features—at all. While this is not a shock considering it is a state-run lottery website, it is still somewhat disappointing.
Payment is the tricky subject on MyPlayWin.com, as all payments must be made with a member’s Playwin card. These cards can be topped up via a player’s cell phone or by visiting a verified dealer or Playwin outlet. There is no other way to top these cards up, and the website does not offer any payment options.
As with the payments, there are no withdrawal options. All winnings are allocated to a player’s card, and they can be withdrawn card by visiting an accredited dealer or Playwin outlet.
How to Claim Your Winnings
If you have purchased your ticket online or through the mobile application, claiming prizes is a breeze—as long as they are below Rs. 10,000. All prizes that fall below this threshold are automatically credited to a winner’s Playwin card and can immediately be withdrawn from the player’s card at any applicable outlet.
If, however, a win is above Rs. 10,000, you will need to fill out a claim submission form that can be downloaded or completed on the website. Once these forms have been downloaded or submitted, winners will have to submit some incredibly strange information and documents such as:
- Player’s card and pin code—rendering the winner unable to play in future lotteries until their win has been finalized and their card returned
- A notarized affidavit stating that the player won without cheating the system in any way and that they are whom they claim to be
- Three photographs that must be notarized
- An original cheque that is cancelled (as proof of banking and personal details)
- Proof of identity
- Proof of residence
Once all this information is provided, the website claims that wins will be paid out within 90 days. These winnings will be paid in the form of a cheque and will already have all applicable taxes—which in India are 30%—deducted.
The website has a decent FAQ section that answers almost all of the burning questions that you may have. If your item is not listed, you can email the site using the address firstname.lastname@example.org. And, if you still can’t get any joy, you can call the office between 10 am and 6 pm (IST) on +91 22 6726 0444.
There are no welcome bonuses or promotions on offer.
Rules and Regulations
Players need to be over the age of 18 in order to play. In addition to this, players MUST reside in the Indian provinces of Maharashtra, Goa, Punjab, or Sikkim to play. In fact, the website is so strict on the fact that nobody outside these regions is allowed to play that the site is entirely inaccessible anywhere else in the world. The security measures work well, and we had to try three different VPN providers before finally being allowed access to the site in order to review it.
MyPlayWin.com Review Conclusion
MyPlayWin.com is a decent site that can be trusted because it is both government-owned and backed by a massive company. Unfortunately, this does not make it anything special. With backward claim procedures (forms for prize claims were so last century) and a long waiting period to receive your card back after claiming, there are certain things that really take away from what would otherwise be a decent lottery experience. That being said, if you are not in one of the four allowable regions, you can’t even attempt to play anyway.
