BoxLotto Review 2024

BoxLotto.com is definitely not what you would expect from most online lottery websites. It throws out the conventional online lottery format and instead offers you a unique experience of playing online lottery free of charge. Established in early 2001, the website is offered only in English, owned by Audie Johnsen, and run out of California. While it may not be what you are expecting out of an online lottery site, in this BoxLotto review, we will see what some of the good things about the site are as well as what things we just cannot excuse.

BoxLotto Review

Lotteries Available

Lottery variation is the first and perhaps the biggest stumbling block for BoxLotto—there is only ONE lottery available on offer! To make it worse, it's not even one of the big lotteries like the US Powerball or EuroJackpot. The lottery on offer by BoxLotto is one of their own that uses the New York Wednesday Lottery as its baseline for its draws. The first 6 numbers of the lottery result are taken from this lottery draw, while the bonus number is chosen using an algorithm supplied by one of the website’s sponsors. This may be a big deterrent to most people, as the highest available prize is only $250,000.00.

How Does It Work?

Playing on BoxLotto.com is incredibly easy to do. There is no need to register a player account or even remember a password. All that is necessary is to click the ‘Play Now’ button and enter in your email address. From here you simply select your lottery numbers. Once your numbers are selected, you can submit your ticket. This will direct you to a webpage where you will view sponsored advertising. After a few moments, your ticket will be validated, and you will be able to confirm the submission. Each email address is given 30 lottery ticket entries in a week period.

To see your submitted tickets, you click on ‘Tickets and Results’ and enter your email address. The site will then display all the tickets that have been submitted using your email address.

Is BoxLotto.com a Scam or Legit?

BoxLotto.com has been around for a staggering 17 years. It also has a relatively poor web reputation. However, this reputation is mainly due to the fact that there are not many offerings available on the site and not due to the fact that the site is a scam. Also, the fact that there is no encryption or SSL on the site is a big worrying point, especially in 2018 where SSL certificates are the norm for practically all websites.

That being said, we don’t think that you need to fully withhold your trust from BoxLotto. Because you are not required to enter any private details other than your email address, you do not need to worry too much about any being stolen.

User Experience

Websites in 2018 have come a long way in terms of design and usability. BoxLotto, however, is a flashback to websites from the early 2000’s. The site has very little thought behind the design, and while you can get where you need to with a few clicks, it is not generally appealing to look at. Large spaces are taken up by advertisements from sponsors, and the look and feel of the site is very basic. That being said, you are easily able to find where you need to be, and once you know where you are going, the site is simple to use. There is also a mobile app offered for Android devices to keep you in the loop no matter where you are.

BoxLotto Features

BoxLotto offers a bingo game, which may peak your interest until you learn that you cannot win any actual money when playing it. All money won in the game is only virtual money and has no actual value. It is, however, a nice game to pass the time with if you are looking to relax for a while. But then again, the Internet is full of countless ways to pass the time, isn’t it?

The US Powerball is also on offer on BoxLotto.com, but not in the way you think. The page to play the Powerball from actually links to WinTrillions who host the lottery play on behalf of BoxLotto. This might lead you to ask the question of why you wouldn’t just go directly to WinTrillions if you are looking to play the Powerball.

Payment/Withdrawal Options

Playing the lottery on BoxLotto is completely free thanks to their many sponsors. This means that there are no payment methods available because you do not need any funds to play.

Withdrawals are done only to PayPal accounts whose details you are requested to submit in the event that you are a winner. This means that you need to have an active PayPal account in order to receive any winnings from BoxLotto.

How to Claim Your Winnings

The responsibility to check if any of your tickets have won falls solely on you with BoxLotto. If you see that one of your tickets is a winner, you are required to claim your winnings through the online prompts on the website. Your winnings, which are then claimed from the website’s many sponsors, will then be paid out to you a month after your claim is submitted. This means that if you claim winnings in June, they will be paid out to you in July.

This waiting period could become an irritation when you are waiting to receive your winnings.

Customer Support

BoxLotto does have an FAQ section available on their website to teach you about how they operate and how things work. However, it is not entirely comprehensive and tends to leave more questions than answers. This is frustrating, considering the only other customer support options are an online form whose response time is apparently two days and an email address (webmaster@boxlotto.com). There is also a snail mail address available for if, for whatever reason, you would like to submit anything to them in writing. The address is 32007 Corte Soledad Temecula, CA 92591.

Welcome Bonus and Other Promotions

BoxLotto.com does not offer any welcome bonus or other promotions. This is not a shock considering that their lottery is free to play.

Rules and Regulations

The standard of 18 years of age is applicable to anyone wishing to play on BoxLotto. Aside from this, BoxLotto is not allowed in almost all countries. The list of countries where play is available is small and only includes:

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • Ireland
  • New Zealand
  • South Africa
  • United Kingdom
  • The United States of America

BoxLotto.com Review – Conclusion

BoxLotto is not what most people would generally be looking for in an online lottery website. However, if you are looking to try your luck without spending a single cent, it would not hurt to give them a chance. While the prize money may not be huge and the site might be annoying to work with, it is offered free of charge and could just leave you with a smile on your face. And if not, then at least you get what you pay for.

BoxLotto is crap to me: awful website, confusing FAQ, slow customer service, nothing interesting about it, etc. etc. I could go on but it wouldn't be worth my or your time for me to do so.
